Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Snap Chat, and LinkedIn! There are so many different social media platforms available (and I didn’t even name them all!) that it can be overwhelming for any business owner.
We all know people are online and that it is important to have an online presence for your business, but do you really know where your target audience is online so you can reach them effectively?
Know your target audience
First of all you must know WHO your target audience is. If you don’t already know WHO your target audience is then take a moment to read this post over here: {link}
Now that you know who your ideal customer is, take a few moments to think about where they are in the online world and what they are doing. For example:
- Are they active and like to take pictures to share online? Maybe they enjoy pretty visuals. If so, Instagram might suit them best.
- Do they enjoy cooking, trying new recipes, having a specific look for their home and/or crafting? Possibly they are wrapped up in the world of Pinterest.
- Do they love watching videos and prefer to watch content rather then read? YouTube may be the best place to reach them.
Still not sure who your target audience is?
Where does your target audience like to shop, play and spend their time? Once you know this, find out where those business owners are spending their time and see if their social media platforms are performing well for them. Are they getting a lot of engagement from their followers?
Where do I start?
Once you have an idea where you think your ideal audience is online give it a try! Create some compelling content, dive into conversations and build relationships. Before deciding if a particular social network is really working (or not working) for you, remember to give it some time. I always suggest you give it a good 30 days before making a decision on whether to really spend more time on that platform or to go and play elsewhere. It will take time for people to find you and they won’t jump into the conversations right away. Think of it like dating. Let them get to know you before you jump into something serious!
